One of the responsibilities of Commissions and Panels is to prepare a statement on recent scientific developments in their area of expertise for inclusion in the annual COSPAR report to the United Nations.

The purpose of the report is to make policy makers from the countries represented on the U.N. Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) aware of the latest developments and trends in scientific space research. The report is not a summary of COSPAR activities but rather of developments throughout the world relevant to the fields of interest of the Committee's Commissions and Panels.

The United Nations greatly appreciates COSPAR's contribution and widely distributes the final report which is published with a chapter provided by the IAF.
